Make Your Own Board Private Group
The Make Your Own Board course is a private surfboard building course for up to four people at The Surfboard Studio in Preston. Students shape, glass, sand, and finish their own board over two full-day sessions.
The fee includes equipment, materials, instruction, and expert guidance from start to finish, so you leave with a completed surfboard and the practical knowledge to keep building.

Course Format
Two Full Days
Day One: Design & Shaping
Start with surfboard design, shaping bay setup, tools, templates, bottom contours, rocker, deck, rails, and fin placement. The focus is practical shaping technique and how design choices affect performance.
Day Two: Glassing & Finishing
Move into cloth cutting, resin mixing, laminating, sanding, and pro-finishing. Optional logos, colour, resin tint, extra length, or different fin setups can be discussed during the course.

What The Fee Covers
Plain White Board
The course includes a shaped and glassed plain white board up to 6'8".
Thruster Setup
Standard fin setup is thruster with FCS II or Futures. Extra fin setups can be added as optional extras.
20% Off Accessories
Course participants are invited to receive 20% off selected accessories on completion weekend, excluding watercraft.

Booking Request
Use the booking form below with suggested dates and as much detail as possible about the board you want to build. Once a booking is accepted, full payment is required.
Bookings should be made at least two weeks ahead so the studio can arrange and prepare a blank. Courses are operated in Preston, about 10km from the Melbourne CBD, and are generally unavailable on public holidays and during December/January.

Course TermsBookings are final due to limited spaces and high demand. Date changes are considered at the studio's discretion and may attract a $250 administration fee. Email change requests at least 30 days before your course date.
